HEREDITARY ON 4K, BLU RAY, & DVD ON 9/4!

July 18, 2018 by Wayne Wright
DVD / Blu Ray Release

The Terrifying Psychological Thriller Arrives on

4K Ultra HD™ Combo Pack, Blu-ray™ Combo Pack, and DVD on September 4 from Lionsgate

SANTA MONICA, CA (July 16, 2018) – A family’s darkest secrets surface when Hereditary arrives on 4K Ultra HD™ Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital), Blu-ray™ Combo Pack (plus DVD and Digital), and DVD September 4 from Lionsgate. Academy Award® nominee Toni Collette “is raw, almost feral, making us feel in our marrow what it’s like to be a mother losing control of her family and maybe her mind” (Chris Nashawaty, Entertainment Weekly) in this riveting film from writer-director Ari Aster (Munchausen, The Strange Thing About the Johnsons) about a grieving family haunted by tragic and disturbing events. From the producers of The Witch and Split, Hereditary is being lauded as “a new horror classic” by the Los Angeles Times and as “this generation’s The Exorcist” by Time Out New York. The Rotten Tomatoes Certified Fresh™ horror film also stars Alex Wolff (Patriot’s Day, My Friend Dahmer), newcomer Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd (TV’s “The Handmaid’s Tale”), and Gabriel Byrne (The Man in the Iron Mask, TV’s “Vikings”).

When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.

Take home Hereditary and go behind the scenes with the cast and crew in a featurette exclusive to the home entertainment release, offering a revealing account of what it took to create this harrowing tale. Also included in the home entertainment release are nine never-before-seen deleted scenes and an “Evil in Miniature” photo gallery. Experience four times the resolution of full HD with 4K along with Dolby Vision™ HDR, which brings entertainment to life through ultravivid picture quality.  When compared to a standard picture, Dolby Vision can deliver spectacular colors never before seen on a screen, highlights that are up to 40 times brighter, and blacks that are 10 times darker. The Hereditary 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, and DVD will be available for the suggested retail price of $42.99, $39.99, and $29.95, respectively.

FROM LEGENDARY STUDIO EUROCINE & FULL MOON COMES OASIS OF THE LOST GIRLS!

May 17, 2018 by Wayne Wright
DVD / Blu Ray Release

An obscure ’70s exploitation film from Eurocine and Full Moon

From the annals of legendary French Erotica studio Eurocine’s sex-soaked vaults comes Oasis of the Lost Girls (aka Police Destination Oasis), a sleazy wallow in sadism, torture and intrigue that only Eurocine could have made!

Freewheeling female friends Annie (Living Dead Girl‘s Francoise Blanchard) and Nadine (Caged Women‘s Nadine Pascal) are snatched during a night of rump-shaking discotheque shenanigans by an evil slavery ring. Drugged and gagged, the gals wake up in the “Oasis”, a clandestine bordello nestled deep in the African Congo where they – and a gaggle of girl prisoners from all over the world – are subjected to untold torments. Their miseries are overseen by the sadistic “warden”, Madame Gaby (Shirley Knight, White Cannibal Queen), a ruthless fiend who foils the girls’ attempts at escape at every turn.

Full Moon is thrilled to present this totally obscure slab of Euro-perversity from the studio that gave the world Jess Franco’s Female Vampire (aka Erotikill) and Jean Rollin’s Zombie Lake.It was after all, Full Moon founder Charles Band’s now iconic Wizard Video VHS and home video imprint that brought many of Eurocine’s most famous films to North American video store shelves in the 1980s. It just makes sense for us to do it again with many of the RAREST titles in the Eurocine library.

Oasis of the Lost Girls is currently available to stream on Full Moon’s erotic film channel Exotic Movie House and will be available on DVD from Amazon and Full Moon Direct on 5/22/2018.

Put Grandma and the kids to bed, dim the lights and swing by the Oasis of the Lost Girls if you dare!

88 FILMS PRESENTS A CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF THE CONTEMPORARY KOREAN WAVE WITH THE OUTRAGEOUS SERIAL KILLER THRILLER GIFTED!

April 25, 2018 by Wayne Wright
DVD / Blu Ray Release

In the tradition of OLDBOY, I SAW THE DEVIL and CHASER comes one of South Korea’s most mesmerising stories of madness and mania that is not for a squeamish – do not say you were not warned…! Things may well be cooling down in the Korean peninsula of late – what with the once-isolated Pyongyang making overtures to Seoul in the name of peace, partnership and k-pop – but there is little doubting that the tension between North and South has led to some of greatest cinematic achievements of recent years. Indeed, the South Korean wave, with its stories of battle-scarred testosterone, living-for-the-moment madness, all-too-fragile psyches and behind-the-doors delirium, has long pointed to an image of shattered innocence and a nation concerned with the future. Never is this clearer than with 2014’s acclaimed and intense shocker GIFTED…

Directed by Jai-hong Juhn (ONE STEP), this indie gut-churner tells of a man with serious psycho- sexual repression who, after being laid off from his job, lets his innermost feelings explode and goes on a rampage of bloodlust and body parts! Featuring the tense and carefully presented psychological horror that made such classics as HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER (1986) and SEVEN (1995) so timeless, but offering a unique South Korean spin on a well-worn formula, GIFTED is not easily forgotten after the end credits roll. Following in the footsteps of the 88 Films release of SEA FOG, this is the label’s second effort in bringing UK audiences the bloodiest and best of genre- nightmares from the land of Cass beer and Kimchi. Sure to startle and disturb the average viewer’s sleep, GIFTED is a tale of terror that will prove unmissable to any self-respected follower of scary movies… Unleashed on May 28th, in an international HD premiere, GIFTED is shipping NOW for anyone who dares to pre-order this magnificent screen massacre from 88’s online shop @ https://88-films.myshopify.com/products/gifted

Prepare To Be Re-Animated!

March 21, 2018 by Naya Banks
Breaking News, DVD / Blu Ray Release

We’re happy to announce that Umbrella Entertainment has happily announced that they will be releasing ALL 3 Re-Animator films on Blu-ray, and this is a first ever for Beyond Re-Animator! Coming this June, these films will be released as a part of a 2-disc Collectors Edition, which also includes the theatrical and integral versions, along with a ton of special features.

I don’t know about you, but I’m kind of excited for this. I just recently watched all of these films with James not that long ago. I think the concept of reanimation is awesome, just because I know that with the correct sources, scientists will eventually find a way to bring reanimation to the real world if they haven’t already.

In fact, the Re-Animator trilogy was the topic for our VERY FIRST episode of Horror Headquarters. You can actually check that out right here on the website by going to the Podcast tab. It’s the first video, let us know what you think. Be sure to check out our other podcasts while you’re here. Make sure you keep your eye out for this awesome release. We sure will.

THE 1978 ITALIAN GIALLO ‘ENIGMA ROSSO’ MAKES U.S. BLU-RAY DEBUT APRIL 10TH!

March 14, 2018 by Wayne Wright
DVD / Blu Ray Release

Enigma Rosso

(Red Rings of Fear)

THE 1978 ITALIAN GIALLO MAKES ITS U.S. BLU-RAY DEBUT PRESENTED IN HIGH DEFNITION AND FULL WIDESCREEN FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!

Coming to Blu-ray on April 10, 2018

Original Trailer (in Italian): https://youtu.be/HxC-gT4zgnU

Doppelgänger Releasing and Scorpion Releasing continue their ongoing collaboration on re-issuing Italian genre films of the Seventies and Eighties with a restored version of the 1978 giallo ENIGMA ROSSO. Directed by Alberto Negrin and starring Italian cult superstar Fabio Testi (a Golden Globe-winner for The Garden of the Finzi-Continis), the chilling mystery concerns a detective’s investigation into the savage assault and murder of a schoolgirl and the subsequent stalking of her classmates at their private school.

ENIGMA ROSSO makes its North American Blu-ray debut remastered in high definition transfer via a brand new scan of the original negatives, with extensive color correction executed in the U.S.

ENIGMA ROSSO begins when the brutally violated body of a young woman is dragged from the river. The investigating law officer, Inspector Gianni Di Salvo (Testi), is drawn to dark deeds at an exclusive girls’ school where the beautiful members of a group known as “The Inseparables” are being targeted with sinister letters and murder attempts. Following a clue in the dead girl’s diary, Di Salvo meets an unlikely ally in the form of the victim’s young sister, and as the pair begins to put the pieces together, he realizes that the school’s web of sex and homicide is more tangled then he ever could have imagined.

A prime slice of sordid shocks from the golden age of the Italian giallo, ENIGMA ROSSO is the final film in a trilogy of schoolgirl thrillers following Massimo Dallamano’s What Have You Done to Solange? (1972) and What Have They Done to Your Daughters? (1974). And, like all giallo entries, it comes complete with the genre’s requisite plot twists, psychological terror, startling violence and stylized eroticism.

Co-starring Christine Kaufmann (Town Without Pity), Ivan Desny (The Marriage of Maria Braun), Jack Taylor (Succubus), and Helga Liné (Horror Express), ENIGMA ROSSO also features a memorable score by the late Golden Globe-winning as well as Oscar and Grammy-nominated composer Riz Ortolani (The Yellow Rolls-Royce, Kill Bill: Vol 1), who amassed more than 200 feature film credits in his prolific 50-year-plus career.

Doppelgänger Releasing and Scorpion Releasing will release ENIGMA ROSSO on Blu-ray for the first time in the United States on April 10, 2018 (prebook March 6, 2018). The Blu-ray, which includes an audio commentary by film historian Nathaniel Thompson, carries the suggested retail price of $29.95.

More information on ENIGMA ROSSO may be found on the DOPPELGÄNGER RELEASING website at:  https://www.musicboxfilms.com/enigmarosso

Arrow Video to Release Argento’s Deep Red in the United States and Canada

March 7, 2018 by Sam Edwards
Breaking News, DVD / Blu Ray Release

A little history about Arrow Video:

Established in 1991, Arrow Films mostly assisted in distributing Arthouse, World Cinema, Horror, and Classic film to home media and theaters. Arrow would go on to launch Arrow Video, which happened to be a sub-label that focused on Cult Cinema. However, many of their titles they released would have terrible video transfers or lack great special features, this of course wasn’t their fault, but the fault of the licensor. It wasn’t until 2012 that Arrow Films would decide to basically revamp their sub-label by trying to acquire more unique special features and doing the very best video transfers they could afford. Arrow Video’s first major home video title after this revamping was Lucio Fulci’s masterpiece, and pseudo-sequel to George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, Zombie (Zombi 2, Zombie Flesh Eaters).

The big downside to this company was that they were United Kingdom based. Unfortunately, this meant almost, if not all, of their releases were Region B locked. Of course this also meant that people in the United States, Canada, and other countries that were locked to Region A, did not have ease of access to their titles. Many people actually opted to get Region Free Players or Region B players with plug adapters. This proved to be a great, but expensive, method for many collectors to get their hands on Arrow Video’s amazing releases.

Along comes 2014 and Arrow Video had some big news; they were going to launch a US Arrow Video label distributed through MVD! Now fans in the United States, Canada, and other regions didn’t have to buy an expensive Region Free Blu ray player or opt to get a Region B Blu ray player with a plug adapter. The only catch to this big announcement was that the label needed to successfully raise $100,000 from an Indiegogo campaign to actually secure their position with MVD. Needless to say, they effortlessly raised the money and even received $20,000 over the goal. A huge step indeed for such an amazing company.

Despite this, however, Arrow Video still could not release some titles in the Region A territories due to rights issues. One of these very titles was Dario Argento’s Giallo masterpiece, Profondo Rosso, but more widely known as, Deep Red, which received a UK only release in 2016. Now, over 2 years later, Arrow Video secured the rights to release this very amazing film on April 10th in the United States and Canada!

What’s in the package?:

Author’s Notes:

This is definitely a great release for collectors who missed out on the UK release, which is highly out of print, or those who don’t have a Region Free/Region B player. It should be no surprise that I highly recommend this film and this release as I own the initial UK release and am a HUGE Giallo and Italian horror fan. For those that have never seen the film, I implore you to check it out; and this release is definitely the best way to check it out!

The Black Scorpion (1957) Gets a Blu-Ray Release in March

February 26, 2018 by Takster
Breaking News, DVD / Blu Ray Release

Warner Bros. Archive Collection is accepting pre-orders for the 1957 Giant Monster Movie The Black Scorpion. The Blu-Ray comes in original widescreen format on a disk that includes the same set of special features included on the 2014 DVD – only this time in a regular blue plastic Amaray case instead of the DVD’s unpopular printed snap case. Archive Collection Blu-Rays are all pressed as well, unlike the DVD versions which were sometimes burned.

The Black Scorpion starring Richard Denning (Creature from the Black Lagoon), Mara Corday (Tarantula!), Carlos Rivas (True Grit) and Mario Navarro (The Magnificent Seven), is the tale of a volcanic earthquake in central Mexico that unleashes the titular creatures – a set of giant bloodthirsty scorpions. Denning and Rivas are investigating the geologic activities when they come across the devastation caused by the monsters. They also come across the female rancher,  Corday, who has fallen from her horse and is in need of assistance. After saving her and meeting a very young boy, Navarro, they inadvertently drive the giant scorpions toward Mexico City. In a final fight at the city’s stadium, the heroes prevail and end the threat, also finding a way to duplicate their toxic poison to stop the creatures in the future.

The film features some honorable work from Academy Award Winning Willis H. O’Brien. When the film features his detailed stop motion work it’s fun to watch, but it’s mixed in with some awful cost-cutting black silhouttes and bad close up models. The Blu-Ray will, however, feature the same four special features from the DVD that detail some of O’Brien’s and Ray Harryhausen’s pioneering stop motion animation work.

Trivia: During the descent into the monster’s cave, The Black Scorpion uses the same stop animation spider model from the missing 1933 King Kong spider pit sequence.

The Blu-Ray ships March 20th and runs 88 minutes.

‘Elvira: Mistress of the Dark’ Finally Coming to Blu-ray from Arrow Video!

February 1, 2018 by Naya Banks
DVD / Blu Ray Release

It was announced back in 2016 that ‘Elvira: Mistress of the Dark’ from 1988 was getting a Blu-Ray release jam-packed with special features, courtesy of a German company, Cinespectral Films, and was set to release in December, but was pushed back before being cancelled completely last August.

Well, we are excited to say that Arrow Video has announced that they will be bringing Elvira’s big screen debut to blu-ray before the end of the year!! What makes this even better is that Arrow will be the FIRST company to do so! They have also announced that they will be releasing ’12 Monkeys’ on blu-ray as well. Unfortunately, they didn’t announced when these discs would be available or what special features we would find on these sets. We’re hoping that Arrow will be able to obtain all the previously announced special features for their disc, which included a 100-minute documentary, multiple feature-length commentaries, behind-the-scenes footage and new interviews.

“Day of The Dead: Bloodline” Gets DVD/Blu Ray Release Date

January 26, 2018 by Klive Kraven
DVD / Blu Ray Release

A brand new re-imagining of the classic film “Day of The Dead” hits VOD, Blu Ray and DVD on February 6th 2018. Now I have personally skimmed through reviews of the film and they are truthfully NOT looking great. However, I am a HUGE Romero fan and a fan of the franchise and furthermore, I am a MASSIVE “Day of The Dead” (1985) fan. This one also has VERY dope art that utilizes the original font from the OG DOTD film and has a grimy zombie face, that I am assuming is the BUB like character of the film.  Granted, this does not by any stretch deem this a GOOD movie, I have not seen it so I can not speak on it. BUT those things to allure me to the film.

The basic plot is stated as: “A small group of military personnel and some survivalists dwell in an underground bunker as they seek to find a cure in a world overrun by zombies, which the others have dubbed ‘Rotters'”.

The cast for this film includes:

  • Sophie Skelton as Zoe Parker
  • Johnathon Schaech as Max
  • Jeff Gum as Miguel Salazar
  • Marcus Vanco as Baca Salazar
  • Mark Rhino Smith as Alphonse
  • Cristina Serafini as Elle
  • Lillian Blankenship as Lily

The film was directed by Hèctor Hernández Vicen, a newcomer to the world of horror with this being only his second movie he directed. Originally slated for a 2017 release as it was film in 2013. It will not be dropping obviously, until 2018.  You can get a preview of whats to come by checking out the trailer for “Day of The Dead: Bloodline” below.

Hellraiser: Judgement. What to expect.

January 20, 2018 by Tara Cunningham
DVD / Blu Ray Release

In this movie we have veteran makeup artist Gary J. Tunnicliffe (Hansel & Gretel) who has been a longtime fan of the Hellraiser series and worked on the third, fourth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth Hellraiser movies with newcomer Paul T. Taylor as pinhead. In Hellraiser: Judgement we follow homicide cops on a devilish beat. “Three detectives trying to stop a diabolical serial killer are sucked into a maze of otherworldly horror where hellish denizens including The Auditor, The Assessor, and The Jury await to pass judgement” reads the official synopsis.

Longtime horror fans may recognize the familiar face of Heather Lagenkamp best known for her role as Nancy Thompson in A Nightmare on Elm Street and it’s sequel Wes Cravens New Nightmare. “I’ve had the most fun I’ve ever had and I’ve never worked so hard on a Hellraiser film!” exclaims Tunnicliffe. “We did two scenes where one of the actresses almost passed out and in another, three grips had to leave the set due to it being an utterly screwed up sequence.”

This film is going the way of grimy Saw vibes with Hellraisers otherworldly torture tradition and they have seemed to pull no punches in the gore department. Pass Judgement yourselves Valentines, it will premier on DVD, Blu Ray and VOD February 13th 2018

January 20, 2018 by Don Anelli
DVD / Blu Ray Release

When the movie was first announced, Sam Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell was met with plenty of fervor and jubilation within the horror community. At long last, the man behind the great Evil Dead and Darkman trilogies was returning to the genre after spending the intervening years working in Hollywood’s mainstream world and promised to go all-out in delivering plenty of his usual antics and genre thrills. Although the final product was met with decent results, it’s become a minor cult hit with its own fanbase.

Now, boutique label Scream! Factory is busting out all the stops with a spectacular 2-disc Collector’s Edition release on Blu-Ray. Limited Edition orders from the site includes a free 18×24 poster of their newly-commissioned cover artwork alongside a copy of the film two-weeks early, while supplies last.

Now she has only three days to dissuade a dark spirit from stealing her soul before she is dragged to hell for an eternity of unthinkable torment. “Sleepaway Camp IV: The Survivor” making a final cut Blu Ray debut!

January 19, 2018 by Klive Kraven
DVD / Blu Ray Release

For quite a long time now we have been clamoring to get our hands on a finished copy of Sleepaway Camp 4: The Survivor. The film was only originally partially recorded and later it became shelved when the production company backing went bankrupt. For almost 30 years the film has sat and collected dust on the shelf. However, in 2018 it seems we may be FINALLY getting the film with a nice Blu Ray release and new artwork as well. (Not the artwork shown to the left.) In other news though, the company backing the film currently is NOT the most fan friendly. I will be looking to get a copy of this but may hold off until I can get it from another source. Either way, this release is quite exciting and I look forward to giving it a spin upon release. We will drop more information on this as it comes!
